Whats the priority right now? Assuming Gio and Hamonic are back (relatively soon), are we trying to add a d-man or is it still a scoring winger?
Good blog Todd, I got to watch the game when it counted most in the 3rd. I still think the priority should be getting another scoring winger but that seems unlikely now. I wonder what the Flames would've have had to give up to get Toffoli. I'm sure if discussions were made it would've involved Calgary's first rounder has a starting point.
I don’t know, I think Mang is filling out that top 6 just fine. Unless we’re getting a right shot winger with term I’d stand pat on that, especially after seeming the cost for a rental. Maybe add a guy like Martinez or Dillon and call it a day.
I’m still all for sending out Brodie, the return would be hard to turn down I’m sure.

Devils advocate, if we stand pat do we have the team to secure a spot AND make a statement in the playoffs?
If we could get Mantha then great. We need a natural RW that has natural scoring talent and a mean streak. Those do not grow on trees. Toffoli is agreat 2 way player but my understanding is he is pretty docile.

To Florida - Monahan, Valimaki, 1 first
To Calgary - Barkov
I know Florida would never trade him but a guy can dream. They may need to shake things up as well.
Trade Brodie to recoup the 1st.
Offseason trade possibility.
To Philly - JG, Backlund
To Calgary - Voracek, Couturier
Both Voracek and Backland have too much term and too much $$$. Philly gets their by and Calgary gets another good young C.

Do we make a deal at all? - geta02it
You know, Bennett is really looking good at centre & shame on the previous Flames coaches for not being more patient with him in that position.
Here is how Im seeing things:
Tkachuk-Backlund-Mangi---Seems Backlund & Chucky have a great chemistry & with Mangi added in, this line is what I would stick with going forward. They have more upside offensively but not as much defensive shutdown prowess as the old 3M line of 3 years ago. But this is ok. Backlund played great yesterday.
Lucic-Bennett-Dube has been a pleasure to watch the last two games. Ward should not touch this line & let them go the rest of the year. Benny & Lucic have that nasty grit & Dube compliments a bit of talent with Bennett. Best 3rd line I have seen so far in awhile.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Lindholm- If these guys can ever figure out how to get there game back to their purple Gatorade level look out. It is a very well established line capable of doing damage to teams, maybe they can peak at the right time for us.
As for the 4th line well we have enough guys Janko/Ryan/Rinaldo/Reider/Robinson
to sort that 4th line out.
So in my view there is no need to waste assets on a forward, if anything, we could probably trade a guy like Ryan & get a pretty darn good return for a defensively responsible forward with 1 year left on his term. Look what Coleman got. & he would get more than what Tofolli got.
Goaltending: Im good, no changes required.
Defense: Now this is the million dollar question mark. First off, not knowing if & when Gio is back makes this a tough question. If I were a betting man I would say Hamonic & Brodie probably wont be back next year as both will get better deals in term & $$$ than we can afford to offer. Of the two, Brodie would be my keeper. Hanifin has been playing way better since he's been paired with Andersson. I would keep those two together for the rest of the year as I see that as our 2nd pairing next year as well. Hanifin was having a pretty good game for my eye test until that gaff. It happens. If we were Duck fans we would be wanting to jettison Manson & Lindholm for a bag pucks after their games yesterday. But they're coveted Dmen & they all have tough games. Gio & Brodie is a fairly solid pairing, they have chemistry like no other & you pretty well know what you are getting. For the rest of the year, I keep Brodie & hope like hell Gio returns some time in March.
I say that leaves Hamonic to be traded. He's way younger & better than Greene & look what Greene got. Stone is a good 7th & can come in for 8-10 minutes on bottom pairing but right now ughhhhh 20 minutes is too much for this guy. Kyllington has good games but more often he is really inconsistent. Yelesin looked ok, he intrigues me but more for next year. So this long narrative says we need to target a Dman, preferably not a rental but someone that will challenge for a top 4 going into next year. Targets would be Brodin/Dumba/Petry/C Miller, guys with 1 year left on term so we dont have to protect them would be ideal. Trade chips could be Ryan/Janko/Kyllington, some picks.
Yes we have a good enough team to make the playoffs & I think we'll be fighting for every inch right up to the last game of the year. JMO
If Brodie and Hammer are not extended by this weekend they need to be moved.
Andy Greene brought back a 2nd round pick.... Hammer & TJ have more value than Greene so retain some salary and milk those 2 for a couple 1st round picks!
Talbot has been very good as well and Colorado is loaded with prospects and in need of someone who can start.
We have an unbalanced roster that needs reconstruction this summer.

Much agreed!!! Our sudden increase of depth scoring seems to feel like a new additions and it’s crazy how big of a sudden 180 change it’s been for Janks, Bennett and even Backs as of late...
And as much as I’ve been really hoping that we’ll land a game changing goal scorer, it doesn’t seem to be as much of a pressing need as it once was a couple weeks ago...Don’t get me wrong as I’d still love to see it but IMO, now the pressing need seemed to have shifted to adding a top 4 dman...I’m not worried one bit in regards to our goaltending in fact I’d bet ya anything that Rittich or Talbs is gonna push each other to the point where one of them is gonna start standing on their head for the rest of the way...
@Kevin R I like your line combos. If we could add a guy like Mantha, I’d go for it. Then I’d run
Johnny Monny Elias
Chucky Sammy Anthony
Dillon Micheal Andrew
Milan Doc ????? Lots of options

He looked awesome last night but he goes unnoticed for stretches as well. Would be nice to have options when that happens.

Personally, I don't think I would do either deal - I like Barkov, but I don't think the relative gain there is enough to justify that price tag. Also really don't like Voracek's game/contract at this point in time... I do like Couturier though, so it's tempting.
I agree it would nice to get something for our expiring contracts, but damn, it feels like Brody is holding the d-core together right now. Trading him might implode the team, not to mention the message that sends...
